Question for designers...

When you lay out your preliminary design for a robot, do you do it ininches, horsepower, watts, volts or do you do it in the metric centimeters,ergs and other decimal driven measurements?Why?My question is driven by the idea that if the metric system were so farbetter than our old English system, why isn't France (originators of themetric system) the world's leaders in technology and not us... stuck in themud with horsepower, amps and feet?

Well I don't know about that. However, NASA occasionally have problems converting between imperial and metric units; whereas Ariane is a pretty reliable rocket.

Metric is the way to go.

NASA needs to metricate more but remember that NASA is one of the most pro-metric organisations in the US. The official report said that the NASA Mars Climate Orbiter was lost because Lockheed failed to use metric units as specified by NASA.
