Elmer's Wood Filler v. Elmer's Finishing Wood Filler/Fill N' Finish

Thanks in advance.

I have been unable to track down Elmer's Carpenter's Finishing Wood Filler (FWF) For Light Woods (aka "Fill N' Finish - Light) at my local Home Depot and Walmart. No one at the stores had a clue, even though the product I ended up buying, Elmer's Carpenter's Interior/Exterior Wood Filler, cross referenced the FWF product.

I was intending to use the FWF for the usual finishing and sanding steps on the fins and BT, plus I have a damaged BT that I am currently repairing.

Is the Wood Filler essentially the same product as the FWF, or is it sufficiently different as not to be an appropriate tool for the above purposes.

Thanks for the help. Hunter

It works well, I use it all the time. Easy to apply and sand. I also use spackle, Red Putty by Model Master and the one part Bondo that comes in the tube at the auto parts store. The spackle is actually the lightest and easiest to sand.

The product I bought which appears to be closest to the old Fill N Finish is:

Elmers Superior Staining Wood Filler "Best for Furniture" Light

It says "reorder number E836" next to the UPC symbol.

I bought it at home depot.

Hmmm, that's the same reorder number that appears on my Fill 'N Finish container (which also says "Interior Wood Filler Superior Staining Light" on it).

Maybe they just dropped the FnF name.

I believe that's the case - these products seem to change names a lot. (Similar situation with the 3M blue masking tape... over the fast few years, I've seen several names, including "Long-Mask", "Safe-Release", and "Scotch-Blue".)

I think you are exactly right, they just changed the name.

That's been experienced here in the Dallas area, too. A buddy of mine checked at WalMart and HD and came up empty. I couldn't get any at HD, either, but did get a pint at Lowe's.

I wrote Elmer's, and here's what they said: "The best places to find it are True Value Hardware. Do It Best Hardware, Ace Hardware and Sutherlands Lumber stores."

They also said that they were dropping the pints, but it would continue to be produced in 4 and 8 oz tubs.

My experience with some of the other Elmer's fillers was that you'd need 80 grit to sand some of it. Pretty tough stuff. But I swear by FNF.
