ok, Jerry got hit by the DOT, can we get back to rocketry?

Aloha, Yes, Jerry got hit. Yes, some people have had a big laugh at this. Can we get back to rocketry now? What are people building now? Does anyone have interesting new electronics they are working on? Anyone have new advances in Hybrid propulsion? BTW, I just got Rocksim 7. WOW is it an improvement over the version 4 I have been using.

Someone sent me a rocket done in 7 to review, can't open it in my older registered version or with the free demo. Do you see any way to save as a previous version?

This is the time of year when I spend a lot of time building new rockets and payloads to replace those that have been damaged or lost over the past year, so that I'll have plenty on hand for my summer rocket trip. Plus I'm building a few new things. I recently finished a 2.6" payload using an Olympus wired up to an electronic timer made for me by Daniel Franklin. Had a successful first flight with it a little over a week ago.

Tonight I'm heading back out to the desert to look for a bunch of stuff that's gotten lost during my last several launches.

RockSim looks like it would be fun and useful. One of these days I'll have to invest in a cheap PC so I can get RockSim.

Rocksim has never really had that feature in the versions I have owned. Its "Save As" function only saves as a *.rkt file with no options to save as different versions. Some of the recent changes have been pretty dramatic and involved re-working the file structures and such. I can see how they would not be backward compatible. 5 to 6 and 6 to 7 were that way IIRC. I've upgraded each time as I have found value in the upgrades. Some of my projects specifically require the advances made in version 7.x.

It is possible that someone can export something you could work with such as a list of parts or one of the other exports thus allowing a short re-assembly in the earlier version. Just a thought. Also, if they export a picture to a file, at least you could see what they are talking about.

But it *does* read past versions, right?

Not owning anything beyond 4, I don't know. But, I'm sure it'd be a major fault if it can't read, and load/process past *.rkt files...

Yeah it will open the file, you just can't save any changes to the earlier format. If you open an earlier file:

"This file was created with a previous version of RockSim. If you save this file, it will be saved in the current RockSim format. Previous versions of RockSim will not be able to read it."

Don't waste your money, usr is out of business and besides, his stuff was crap 20 years ago.

Aloha Kurt, I do not think that RockSim is backwards compatible. New versions will read old version files, but not vice versa.

Paper tubes age gracefully. Look at your kit collections.

Fred Brennion and Brian Teeling have a mutual hate society and are STILL fixated on events of 20 years ago! 20 years ago USR "brand" was only 4 years old and the drama was initiated. Who really owned it then too?

Where did all those motors come from that were servicing the largest launch in the country?

Buy and take, all sizes.

Would Fred Brennion EVER complete an upgrade of the ALT program (under Jerry's request) Jerry and Chuck did in college?

Would Brian EVER do ANY work as promised?

Jerry

The drama continues . . .

I quit using Rocksim long ago, so I would get zero value for myself by upgrading. I only use the software to view other people's projects.

Just finished my Descon entry. Not yet decided on my next (big) project, might wait until the next descon theme is decided. I'm contemplating a cluster of some sort. In the meantime, got some repairs to do.

I was quite excited by the new feature to add "textures", but it's not really fully functional yet.
