For many years I used a cardboard file drawer, the kind sold at office-supply places for archiving files. I had a spare hanging file frame (the metal kind) that I put inside to make it fairly crush proof (It's pretty strong on its own. I found that it was just wide enough to take the fin span of most any rocket that would fit in its length, and had plenty of room for a whole afternoon's worth of small rockets. Throw in a few plastic containers for motors and igniters, a zip-lock bag full of wadding, a small launch system, and you're good to go.

You should have kept the Crap-O-Van (Tm), you could have filled it full of styro peanuts and towed it to launches.
Had one of the '87's, ran great, handled great, engine died anytime it got below half a tank and outside temp over 90. Chrysler tried to fix it 8 times before taking it back.
On the Rubber Maid Foot Locker, I've used it for rockets as large as my NCR Intecepter G, just have to take off the nose cone, and clean the styro peanuts out of the BT before flite.

Take nose cone off and put it on upside down. (I guess you could just have it crooked :-)
