need some help from rms'rs

Gentlemen,

I am looking around for some very small diamater solder wire.(like

12lb test fishing line small) I used to work in a circuit board manufacturing shop and it was used to repair circuit boards. I'm not having any luck on ebay. I am not using it to solder. I need it for a diorama that I am currently working on.

Thanks a bunch,

Deeman

If you need fairly malleable wire about .008", and the local Radio Shack/electronics outlet doesn't have it, check the jewelry section of your local arts n craft store. If you could work with steel, guitar strings are available in .008" diameter.

Walmart has some craft wire in silver and gold that might work, I know I've used it to make many things like radio antennas for cars. Mike G.

Another place you can look is in a fly fishing store which caters to fly tying supplies. I foud some very useful gauges of lead wire there - 35 cents a package.

I'll also second the guitar string idea.

e strings are ok for 1/48th rigging but what works for 1/72?

There's another great stuff called "Wonder Wire". It's monofiliment 3 mil carbon fiber; $3.00 a pack when I got mine. I got it from a mail order place in NJ (I think...) called Precision Enterprises...haven't heard of them in a while, but I recall that they were really great folks to work with.

Wonder Wire is great because it wants to be straight - under longer runs it sags just enough. I use it for antenna wire on my WWII subjects.

I also suppose you could use any weight monofiliment carbon fiber for rigging if you can't find the Wonder Wire product by name.

FWIW Precision Enterprises used to advertise in Fine Scale Modeller, but I haven't seen their add for some time. I suspect they have "gone West". They used to stock Aero-Club, one of the few places in the U.S.A. that did.

Coats n Clark nylon thread comes in smoke and clear. < 1/4mm dia. It can be a bit tricky to work with but it is worth the result.

Since rigging is close to invisible in 1/72 but needs to be there I use #1 monofiliment fishing line.

At three feet it's invisble, closer than that it's pretty close to scale.
