In this photo of a model ... I was just curious ... protruding below the left wing ... and cranked forward. Is that an antenna ?

It is indeed a whip radio antenna supplementing the radio mast antenna.
This antenna seems to have been introduced sometime in the 109G-14 production run and appears to have been standard on the Bf 109K models.
