Kicked to death but....laptop please!

I am using SW 2003 SP4 on a Compaq Evo N800v with 512 Mb of ram. the video card is an ATI mobility 7500 with 64 Mb ram on the built in 15" screen at 1400 X 1050 resolution. 40 gig HD. Windows XP pro & & it works very well.

Everyone always seems to go with Dell M60 as the one of choice. Not saying that it is bad or that it cant handel SW well. But me thinks that the Area 51 from Alienware can do just as good a job.

maybe i should be more clear, i am not selling swx but showing our customer the capabilities swx has given us. and if you have been using swx for any amount of time you know it is all about horsepower. you will have a guy that can barely turn the thing on showing off large assy's and edrawings and animations and renderings. i agree we see too many canned presentations from corp, i just need the tool to present to our customers with out it hanging or crashing etc. tia

bob z. is gonna have to second the Dell M60. (gawd, bob z. hates dells, but in this case it'll probably work perfectly). the price is kinda high, but with the 2gb of ram that it is capable of, you can have it all setup with everything running for the psycho to just flip it open and start stuttering, uh, bob z. means impressing. man, oh man. bob z. is looking at this thing [m60] while he is typing. sheesh! this thing is going to be over $5000 by the time it's useable!!!

on a side note, did you guys hear about Dell changing their name? yeah, they are Dell Inc. now. one night alone with Joan Jett if you can tell us what Dell was called before.

We've got an older (about a year and a half...sheese) PIII 1.3ghz M50 Dell and it is still quite usable as an actual worstation. Ours has 512mb ram, and "Quadro 2 Go" graphics, running Win2000. Haven't had any of the "Dell-ish" problems you see people write about here.

I use a 1 ghz Dell for my work and it is a bit slow now, but good for what I'm doing for a bit longer.

Was highly recommended by an earlier post a week or two ago by a Swks user who's firm had 6-7 of them over the last few years. Described them as bulletproof.

Yea.. We looked at em. The bummer was the graphics chip. At the time they didn't offer a FireGL version of the Radeon. I don't really know that they do now. The consumer Radeon chip has the same multi windows limitation as the Geforce.

Fujitsu makes a nice machine with an Nvidia Quadro chip, Celsius if I remember right. They're a little less than the Dell, but still way over priced.

yeah, Quadro FX 1000, FX 2000 or Quadro4 980 XGL, 900XGL, 780 XGL, 750 XGL, 700 XGL, or 700 Go GL.

all these support 'Realview' in SWX 2004. Something you will be well pleased with!
