Concetric "will" work. but first you have to create an axis feature in the spring model.
It's easy. In the spring model, make the base sketch for the helix, and the plane it's sketched on, visible. Select the center point of the circle, and the plane. Click the "axis" icon, (reference geometry toolbar). It should create an axis perpendicular to the plane, through the center point of the circle. This axis can be used in assemblies for concentric mating.

Every spring I've ever modelled included an axis feature for the body centerline.
