Maximum edge gap bug?

If you create a new part in SWX2004 on any of the planes by drawing rectangular box (rectangle tool or 4 lines doesn't matter) and than extrude the created 'box' always will have 2 errors when you run entity check: one is max edge gap and the other is max vertex gap, both with value 5e-0006 mm. I've noticed first with SP 2.1 but is also in 3.0 and on al 4 computers in the office. Normally it wouldn't matter to much but somehow these errors seems to multiply in quantity as you build a part and cause problems when translating into ProE and Mechanica which we are using as FEA tool. Any ideas? Regards, Irek

Note that these aren't flagged as errors. They're just telling you that the system could only resolve the locations of the vertices and edges within 5 nanometers. Most of us don't have to worry much about nanoscale geometry.

I don't have any older versions installed, but I suspect that you would have seen the same reports from all earlier versions. It could be that the older versions just didn't bother to show a value when it was below some threshold, but I'm sure they weren't any better at determining the locations than SW04 is.

SW does have problems sometimes with not being able to locate vertices accurately enough, but I don't think you will find it with simple extruded boxes. It's the other geometry, particularly lofts and sweeps and their like, that usually cause the problems.

My experience has been that Pro/E doesn't worry about tolerances as much as SW, so it was more of a pain going from Pro/E to SW than it was from SW to Pro/E, but I don't have all that much experience going either way.

Thank you, that does explain it

Not long after I posted, I restarted SW to reduce my memory usage and the tip told me that Sketch accuracy is 1*10^-6 m and feature accuracy is

1*10^-8 m. That fits in nicely with the gaps that SW reports. It's not very clear to me how the features can be more accurate than the sketches, though!
