pick and place robotics

could someone recommend a small, low cost, pick and place robot unit? I have a possible application with a 2 ounce part, simple gripper tooling, no wrist motion, etc. I just need z-axis motion to pick, then swing 90 or 180 degrees and drop back to same z value to place. Hoping for pneumatically powered.

Thanks, Bill

There are tons and tons of automation robotic units from all sorts of suppliers, and I have seen lots of them @ the MD&M shows every year.

I would search the automation magazines or hit Google and start looking for a simple unit

Thanks Bo, but I was hoping someone had hands-on (positive) experience with a particular line of low cost units.

Looking through thousands of webpages and trying to determine prices on all of them would put me about a year behind schedule.

I don't know about low cost, though I have pieced together things from SMC's pneumatics to do simple things.

But if you need reliability try a look at the small units here:

I've used a number of PHD units. Keep the loads low as possible, the speeds as slow as possible and the overhang as short as possible. PHD makes small grippers, multiple axis slide and rotary "pick & place" units. Depending on your arrangements, you should be able to put together a unit for less that $1K and maybe less that $750. If you want mechanincal unit Stelron makes a com operated unit called a "Trans-part" that is real reliable though not real cheap. Mostly you can configure a small one with a motor drive from less that $4K.
