Re: BOM Screws

Is it possible to have the BOM not automatically include screws & dowels > (sw2003)?

the first thought that comes to bob z.'s feeble mind is this: just create a config that has all of the hardware suppressed. use this config to create your BOM. sound like a plan? :~)>

In 2003 & earlier, you can right click on your BOM, select properties, and then select the Contents tab. You can then click on the check mark next to each item to hide it in the BOM. A couple warnings, this method causes the item numbers to NOT be continuous. If changes are made to the assembly such as adding or deleting a component, you will have to re-edit the BOM contents as the row #s may change.

SWX2004 (currently in pre-release 2) has a better method. In the assembly, you can choose to not show items in a BOM by right clicking on the component in the feature tree and selecting component properties.

you didn't miss anything that wasn't there! :~)>

how are you creating your BOM? are you picking a dwg view and then hitting Insert BOM? if so, the dwg view that you pick for BOM creation has to be set to the config that has the hidden/suppressed hardware. the other dwg views on your sheet will be set to the config with the hardware unsuppressed. yes, 6wks into it - this stuff does sound a little like blah-blah-wah-wah. charlie brown on the phone with his granny. :~)>

after you create the config in the assy, go to your dwg and right-click on one of the views. then hit properties. about the middle of the way down in that little dialog box is 'Configuration information' you want to set it to 'Use named configuration'. you will then have total control of the visibility in your dwg of the hardware items. i hope this wasn't too confusing.

just a reminder, you can change a components order in the bom by changing the order in feature tree by alt+dragging. in other words, the order in the bom is a direct reflection of the order in the fm. this will aid in making the bom look any way you want (i.e. drag fasteners to bottom of fm, then hide as you describe, in the bom).

Just a quick comment here - you don't always have to use when you drag stuff around in the FM tree. The only time you need it is when you are positioning an object next to an assembly object so that it puts it next to it, rather than inside it.
