Slightly OT: In-Mould sequential Product Marking

Hi, Any of the mould tool guru's in the group know of an in mould method of sequentially marking an identification "number" on each part produced.

The face that has to show the number is 16mm wide x 8mm high.

My initial thoughts are to print the part - but it would be good if the number could be moulded in.

The "number" will be alpha-numeric something like A900BXR and it's estimated 300,000 parts per year.

Thanks,

kev

I just did a quick search yesterday for something similar, but found nothing in my literature or on Google.

I was expecting to see something which allowed a dot matrix pattern or similar, but didn't even find that.

The forces involved mean that it would be unlikely to have individual characters change with each molding cycle in anything that would be compact.

Laser marking parts as they come out of the press may be the only other reliable quick way to do it that doesn't make for big issues in the mold, but it will not be "inexpensive".

Bo,

My google came up with the same .. ZIP!

Although, I thought I saw something that did what I described at an exhibition many years ago - but I've probably just remembered incorrectly what I saw!

I think printing is going to be the way.

PCS has something but might be to large for your parts

Seems like I saw something in Plastics News just a day or so ago. I'll have to wait till I get home to find it.
