MODEL RAILROAD SYSTEM VERSION 2.1.7 RELEASED

Deepwoods Software is pleased to announce the release of version 2.1.7 of the Model Railroad System. This package includes a collection of libraries and programs designed to help the modeler with many of the more tedius aspects of his or her hobby. Included are libraries for communication with Chubb and Lenz XPressNet networks, a user-mode driver for the Rail Driver control console, a library to parse XTrkCAD layout files, as well as utilities for computing dropping resistors, camera view areas, creating railroad time tables, and a switch-list based freight car forwarder system. There are several key changes in this release:

  • Many fixes to configure scripts and makefiles has allowed for a cross-built set of binaries for MS-Windows.
  • All Tcl/Tk code has been converted/adapted to the use of StarKits and StarPacks. This has allowed the creation of "standalone" executables for all of the Tcl/Tk programs. These programs are completely self-contained and don't depend on Tcl/Tk (or any support code) being installed on the run-time system. These executable files can just be copied to any suitable computer and run, without a tedious install procedure.
  • There has been some minor reorganizing of the low-level C++ code. The separate Tcl loadable modules have been eliminated. Now the regular C++ link libraries are also the Tcl load modules. The Parser and Classes libraries have been merged.

In addition to the source code archive, there is also available for download a Linux binary archive and MS-Windows binary archive. Both sets of binaries were built under CentOS 4.4. The Linux binaries are distribution neutral, due to the use of StarPack technology.

You must have downloaded the one that was compiled for a Linux system. Right? That it even ran on your WinXP system is a miracle. That it crashed your computer is a blessing. That you managed to crawl back out is regrettable.

Free software requires no buyer. It works great. Thanks to Mr Heller are in order! Well done!

On the other hand, that you didn't manage to completely disable the complainant's computer is something to which I will hold you accountable.

Don't let the sexual abuse you suffered in a church be the excuse for your behavior here. You asked to spend the afternoons with the youth group pastor, even after you were unable to sit down as a result.

Your version of the hand of the lord is different than the rest of us. Thank god.

I'd like to ask this question:

Given the large size of the binary downloads for the Model Railroad System (20meg), would there be any interest in a CD-R release for a nominal fee ($6 + S&H)?

I use broadband and Fee Download Manager so no, I don't need a CD. With that combination, the only limitation is the website's server speed -- some people here would be amazed how much servers differ in their rates of data transfer. For me, yours is fast enough -- it took less than a minute to get your software.
