The backdrop method I suggested is even cheaper. As is simply scratchbuilding your backdrop structures. All buying kits gives you is structures that everybody recognizes immeadiately.

Yes, but if you've taken a kit and reworked it to suit your location and personality, you get people visiting and saying, "Hey, is that the XYZ Factory kit? You've really used it in a neat way!" There's kudos and plaudits to be gained even if you start with a manufactured item. Maybe more than if you did it all from scratch.
