I got the following question today from a friend. I seem to recall that there was a business connection between the CV and GTW so it seems possible that they both used the same color.

Not necessarily! There's a well documented difference between several GTW and CN colors, notably the orange on the Diesel ends. Add in time frames and local variations (not even all GTW locos use the same orange paint) and all bets are off. I have NO knowledge of the CV color specifically, but just saying it's part of the CN family tells you little.

Those are all very good points that would hold true in the majority of instances for any railroad "family".
However, when the Grand Trunk Corporation was formed in 1971 as a holding company for the CN's US operations (the CV, the DWP and the GTW), one of the things they did was break a little from their corporate parent by changing their color scheme from black, grey (it isn't actually pure white), and Morency Orange to BLUE, grey, and Morency Orange.
So within the realm of differences caused by different regional suppliers, different batches, possibly different formulas applied to different car types, different shops applying the paint, etc, all three of the GTC siblings used the "same" blue, grey, and orange.
BTW, it caused quite a stir north of the border, from what I understand...
