Really? I was just there and they had no foam of any kind whatsoever. CA sucks in the foam dept. I had the same problem when I lived in Southern CA. When I lived in Florida, the foam was coming out of everywhere, but I didn't have any room to do anything. *sigh*.

What do they use for home insulation in Ca.? Houses with A/C need insulation too.

Owens-Corning seems to be king here. I did see some one inch styrofoam sheets on occasion.

The Home Depot, bracketed by Los Positas, N. Livermore, I580 & WalMart. go in the entrance, turn left on the first thru isle, just before the tool rental turn right on the last isle (sheet rock), go past the restrooms, on your left will be some of the big orange metal shelving, some if it sticks out into the isle and is marked "sheathing".

White foam in 1/2", 1" and 2" thicknesses, in 4'x8, 2'x4' sheets. Was there 1/24/2004:18:30. At first it looks like beads but, it's not. The bead look is from the gas bubbles formed in the materials expansion during its manufacture. It's supposedly environmentally safe, if it burns it doesn't produce any toxic gases so you just suffocate BUT you aren't poisoned!!

Price seems to have gone up about $5 a 2"x4'x8' sheet since I bought some 18 months ago.

There is also some fiberglass stuff that seemed interesting 2"x4'x8'?

But that's not extruded poly, it's expanded poly (as you indicate). Not nearly as strong and rigid as the extruded, and even messier to shape than the extruded stuff.

AH! Ok, expanded.

A little messy yes. Depends on how finely you want to shape it. We've only done a little with it as hilly terrain. Roughed out and then covered with cast clothe or hydrocal soaked paper towels. Mostly we are using it as a flat starting point for the WS risers.

So where is the pink and/or blue foam in CA???

Dunno. There is some at the club, I'll have to ask where they got it. If I think of it tomorrow, I have to go by Lowes, I'll check if they have the pink or blue.

The pink is made by Owens-Corning and the blue is Dow. The white is not extruded and therefore not strong enough for a layout bed.

For those looking for pink foam insulation sheets. If you go to Home Depot and give them the following SKU numbers, they should be able to get it for you. Please note that not all stores will or can order it. For 3/4" x2'x8' sheets the SKU is 465145
