An interesting evening

I had an interesting evening out at a firework display on Saturday evening - luckily it coincided with one of the rare crank-ups at the Museum of Stationary Power at the Midland Railway Centre at Swanick, Derbyshire. It's a lovely little museum, soon to be extended and more than doubled in size, and is testament to the half dozen enthusiasts who have built it from scratch. Some nice engines, and a reasonable collection of all sorts of smaller engines. Pictures at

The Gardner is driving a large multistage air compressor - used to provide starting air for the bigger engines.

They're not that rare - there's usually something running most Sundays.

I wish I'd have known in advance - I only live about a mile away!

Brian,

I meant rare in the occasion that they had all the big engines running, plus several of the smaller exhibits as well. I knew that there is generally someone around most Sundays, and I would recommend a visit if you're in the area - bit of a pain to find though unless a) you know where you are going or b) you come on the steam railway from Ripley!

Cheers

Dan
