Lucie Butoximus Russell, 1887-1962. Female Physician. Inventor of " Russell's Orifice " a device which was effective in counteracting the embarrassing symptoms of rectus flacidus. This drug was adopted by Spitfire pilots during WWII to counteract the aforementioned affliction which could be brought on by engine failure during negative G maneuvers.

I suspect the hesitancy to anounce the result is that while pledges are good, they have yet to get the =A3. Let's hope they get a high conversion rate.

Just read Alex Henshaw's autobiography. He was Chief Test Pilot at Castle Bromwich during the war & test flew something in the order of 3,000 Spitfires.

I was surprised to read that Merlins were by no means 100% reliable & suffered piston failures, crank breakages & "skew gear" failures that meant that the magnetos stopped going round, usually as you pulled up at the bottom of a dive only to find the engine was only windmilling! Bearing in mind that these were new lumps just off the production line, this did surprise me.

I do not quite understand your last sentence

- but surely they are in danger of losing support if they do not keep the supporters up to date.

I was meaning that it's one thing to pledge money but another thing to actually part with it. While I hope most will honour their word, there's likely to be a few who cannot or will not. Let's hope they are only a few.
