Given that they seem to have invented the dam' things (railways, that is - .uk didn't get them until the 1570s or so) I suppose they wouldn't.

I think you'll find the average German's recollection of history is rather patchy, particularly the period between 1933 and 1945.
That aside, I have no wish to model German outline nor to adopt their period classification system.
