Peco Point motor extension pins

Does anyone know if Peco sell the extension pins for their point motors separately? I couldn't find any listed anywhere.

I have 5 old motors I'd like to re-use but the use of a camping mat as underlay means the pins don't reach :-(

If not I suppose I'll have to use the nearest size KS tubing and rod though none of these seem particularly close to the size I need.

Cheers.

Have you tried phoning Peco? I think they can be quite helpful on things like this, and a colleague got some that way a few years ago.

They've never been listed as available separately but were included FOC in with their point motors until the introduction of the PL-10E motor. If they've any left kicking around they have generally been happy to supply them without charge on request.

IIRC the extension pin that used to come in the packet along with the brass tube, used to be of a slightly different (smaller) diameter. At least that's what it always seemed to be although I admit to never actually measuring the things. Could explain why they always seemed to fall out - sigh...

The new type with the long one piece is the way to go, assuming you want Peco ones.

Richard,

My advice here would be to abandon extensions on Peco point motors because many of the motors in my practical experience have so much sloppy movement in the armature (armature shaft is a sloppy loose fit in the coils) that it is possible for the armature to move side to side without the tip of the extension moving at all, consequently, a turnout doesn't change because the extension doesn't move. I raised this with Peco who claimed they'd never had this problem before in 30+ years, but most (if not all) my Peco motors are like this. I directly attach my motors to turnouts. If you really need extensions, I would strongly recommend Seep point motors as they are far better made and certainly here in Sydney, are actually cheaper than Peco and have a much more reliable switch built in.

If you go any decent model shop you should be able to purchase rod and tube and cut to length. Have used this method on home layout and a large exhibition layout with out any problems, layout construction pre-dated Peco extension packs.

Thanks guys,

I phoned Peco who said they are available free of charge in return for a SAE.

Apparently there are two types available, the size having changed ten years ago or so. As this was when I purchased mine I measured the shafts and found I had each type in equal numbers.

Ah, so I was right, I had probably mixed them up so that I had small/large combinations & why some seemed to fall out but others fine.

The magic of imperial & metric systems. Roll on the day when everything is metric.
