Are there are serious proposals to 'restore' SWC? The last time I saw this it was still carrying the BR green livery applied before withdrawal. It would be a shame to see that lost.

Which is very quick by (some) railway preservation standards, how many ex-Barry locos are still 'rusting away' in a siding 20 years after (at the latest) leaving Woodhams yard?!

I last saw it on Churchill's funeral train passing Oxford.

But that was not SWC! AIUI the true SWC was in the middle of a full overhaul when the great man died, another loco swapped identities for the funeral train.

Not the first time thay did that. Bristol and Windsor Castles swapped names. numbers and the Royal plaque in 1952 for a Royal visit to Swindon.

And 6229 Duchess of Hamilton was given 6220 Coronation's name and number to visit the USA.

Even earlier, "Gooch" was an elegant Dean 4-4-0 but for some reason the name was temporarily given to a Queen class 2-2-2 around 1900.

Indeed, she was shipped out in early 1939 [1] for display at the 1940 world trade fair, the locos kept their swapped identities for around 4 years due to "6220" (aka 6229) becoming stuck in the USA due to the out-break of WW2, only being shipped across the Atlantic in 1943.

[1] together with some of the coaches intended for the '1940 Coronation Scot' service, they made an extensive tour of the USA in early/mid 1939
