Rivarossi 4 wheel coach?

Hi all

just picked up a couple of Rivarossi 4 wheel corridor coaches that I'd like identified and perhaps buy a few more - the guy in the store didn't know anything about them as they were dropped off as a lot of used items..... only marking are on the body as running numbers and they read FSC then a tiny IV then 35 006. Both are identical and are chocolate and coffee in colour (not flavour) have glazing but no interiors and metal running boards.

Any help or suggestions welcomed - pics available to anyone asking.

thanks

Steve

Sounds like an Italian car to me, probably of the pre-war era (era II???). Modern Italian cars are marked "FS", so possibly "FSC" is the older version of the mark. 4-wheel coaches were very common in Europe from the early days of the railroads. Many were rebuilt and lasted well into the 1950s and 60s.

I think I remember seeing 4-wheelers still in service in Austria in

1980 - on a local service from Graz.

Pacers are in use in Britain (and Iran) today.

From memory of the old catalogues I have stashed somewhere, there were two series of these 'models'. The originals, from around 1960, were 1:80 scale and fairly basic by today's standards. (I have a brown luggage van somewhere) In the 1970s the models looked much better in the catalogues than previously, so one could guess that the models were upgraded.

As you originally stated, the coaches have corridor connections, so I would assume that they ran on semi-fast trains over reasonable distances rather than being branch line stock.

Looking in a 1988 Rivarossi catalogue I find cat.No.2505, '3rd. class 4 wheel passenger coach of Ciy type', in brown livery. Number hard to read but could be 35 006 Marked FS Ciy. C probably indicates third class. But the illustration has 2 on the doors, one would expect 3. Perhaps third class had been abolished and the classification unchanged. Regards, Bill.
