Hornby Dublo did make a D.M.U based on a hamshire unit i think and it is rare ,but they were 2 rail also .Anyway £17 .50 is a good price for a Triang mett cam {it was baseed on the early 2 car lightweight unit not a 101,notice the skirt under buffer beam}Triang later added a center car and it became a

101 and if you ever find a set with a large headcode box its a 111{i think this was last model triang made of these units } regards Bill

I think Bill may have inadvertently made a slight error here. If I recall correctly, Hornby Dublo manufactured a 2-car electric unit, for which their standard Southern Region suburban non-corridor coaches were to be used to make up 3 or 4 car units. They marketed it as a Southern Region EMU and it had "S" numbers on the coach sides. Unfortunately, its prototype was the London Midland Region Euston-Watford stock and not the Southern Region unit it purported to be. It was certainly produced in 2-rail, not sure about

3-rail and it was introduced very late in the independent life of Hornby-Duble/Meccano.

Hope this helps,

I believe it was also the only 100% genuine Hornby unit to make it into the Triang-Hornby catalogue.

Absolutely correct. Yes, there is a three rail version. Neither are common, although the three rail power car is the less common.
