brazing manifolds to improve seal

I have an old skidsteer which has a three part exhaust/intake manifold. The face of the manifolds are pitted and don't make a good seal. I thought I would just clean the faces and braze them, then file them flat again. Thus making a nice flat clean new face and a good seal again. ( gaskets do go between manifold faces) any suggestions or problems with this plan??? Any special prep needed, other than cleaning the faces of the manifolds?

Thanks for any advice.

I have had manifolds milled by an automotive machine shop. If this is an inline engine and the pits arent too bad there should be no reason to fill them. It is hard to hold a nice flat surface with a file. Steve

I don't think I would bother. I've got engines that came from the factory with sectional manifoldes that, literally, just slip together. They leak a tad, i'm sure, but not enough to be a problem. If you are real concerned, make sure that you use fresh gaskets, with sufficient compliance, and use a little high temp gasket sealer (or, for that matter, high temp antisieze works well, too) and be sure that the alignment is correct.

As already ststed, the only way you will get a top-quality fit is machining, and that probably ain't worth it.
