Cast aluminium car wheel repair?

Wonder if anyone has any information about repairing cast aluminium wheels? Mainly talking about flats around the edge of the rim, caused by driving over a curb say.

I suppose a lot depends on what any particular wheel is made out of, and whether or not it was heat treated in some way during its manufacture.

Would it be viable to make some sort of hydraulic press, with suitable dies, so that you could warm up the damaged part of a rim, and slowly press it back into its former shape?

Any advce and help would be very much appreciated, remove nospam to reply direct (I am in the UK by the way).

Chris,

Although I haven't a clue about how to do it, I know there are a number of companies that advertise this service in the back of US auto magazines. I assume there are outfits that do similar repairs in the UK. The auto mags might be a good source of folks to whom you can talk.

Personally, that is the way I would go. I don't want to play "cut and try" with a wheel that my life depends on going down the highway. An secondary hazard is the force of the bead against the wheel while inflating. Billh
