Following advice i believe I read here, I cleaned the 1" square tube for the current project with a knotted wire cup brush before chopping up for the O/A cart. I just noticed last night that welding splatter isn't sticking.
Is this because I removed the rust and scale, or because I switched from 6013 to 7018?

You have the correct amperage. E 7018 is even worse for spatter than 6013 when run too hot. My guess is that you were running too hot with the 6013 or your arc was too long. Randy
I've run various amperages with 6013 depending on position, also run
7018. I recall the bb's sticking, but not what I'd consider excessive. I'll have to run them back to back on cleaned and normal and report back.Pete
