I bought a hypertherm 1000 off of an ebay vendor. Price was right the machine is great and parts are available everywhere. I can't remember the vendor (it was 4 years ago) but the major vendors should be ok. Steve is right in that if they fry a board they are expensive to fix but if you buy either Hypertherm or Thermal Dynamics units and you treat it right it should last a long time. Be sure to feed it clean dry air and the consumables will last a lot longer.

Buy the ones with the sturdiest handles. They make good boat anchors when they die, fry, or you can't get parts for them.

I have been using my Hypertherm Powermax 1000 to cut up steel beams for several weeks now. It has made me about 20 times what I paid for the machine. If you work for a living, get a real one. If you cut metal once or twice a year, feel free to experiment with an offshore unit. But please write a report if you do - no one seems to ever get to that part. Lots of guys here buy Hypertherm and have good results. OTOH, they cost big bucks. Sometimes you simply get what you pay for.
