Nice non-obvious features of inverter based welding machine?

I am now making a DC to square wave AC inverter. It will feature adjustable frequency and duty cycle. I cannot make straight vs. reverse polarity to be different currents/voltages. Are there any other nice features of modern welders besides adjustable frequency and cleaning cycle, that I could consider?

??? If you vary the duty cycle on the two sides of the H-bridge it will, I think. I'm no expert, but I think that is how they do it. Of course starting with symmetrical waves and eliminating explosions is a good first step. See below...

Not blowing up? :-)

I'd suggest saving the other details for after. One step at a time. After you survive the most basic test and know how to drive the power parts, adding the details should be easy.

Unless you are looking for features that are most beneficial when you shop for a commercial TIG welder, I think these finesse discussions are only showing lack of focus on your part. Prove by success on the most basic version that you are not engaged in a fool's game.

P.S. I admire your enthusiasm. I always like to jump into new technology several steps above what most would try and I do expect success (with some minimal learning curve). In this project I would be more inclined to expend money than time and effort unless you want to learn a lot the hard way. Choose your battles wisely?

Feel free to gloat and say bad things about me and my doubt if you succeed. Good luck, in any case. Somebody did it before you, so you know for sure it can be done.
