Polished tungstens Vs. ground

I was reading an article in one of the trade mags and there is a company pimping polished tungsten's as well as ground ones as too. What is the difference in function and if it is a significant focus of the arc worth using, is there a way I can do this myself? I have a CK Turbosharp III I don't use, I just use a bench grinder and get the same results. I was just wondering if anyone knows about the difference and how to do it. The pictures shown definitely show a nice polish but why and is it to control wander?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Polished tungstens are standard in the automated tube welding business. A polished tungsten gives a more predictable arc for a machine, but has little benefit for manual TIG.
