Gas Motors

About to purchase my first gas motor around the

60-70 cc. Zenoah, Quadra, GWS, Brison, Fuji, and a lot more to choose from. So what to buy? I like the look of these Fuji motors, Auto advance, CDI ignition and muffler all in one reasonably priced package. Any advice from experienced gas jockeys would be appreciated.

I have the Zenoah G62 and for the money its a good engine, easy starting and lots of power. Havnt had any of the others. but will say from my experience any muffler provided with a gasser is usually not of much use in a plane, and must purchase an aftermarket one.

Understand that Fuji is a popular engine in the UK and not in the US. Making parts in the US expensive and a pain to obtain. Not sure what the situation is in NZ, but you should check it out before choosing your engine. Between the fuji and the zenoah, I would go with the Zenoah. Between the Quadra and the Brison I would go with the Brison.

Just to make it more difficult, Part of your decision may have to include considering whether you are after maximum power with minimum weight, or whether the weight difference is really going to be a factor. There is a considerable difference in weight between the lightest engines and the heaviest, There is also a difference in power output between he various engines. I have a Brison that seems to run fairly smoothly for a single cylinder engine, produces WAY more power than I need for the application, BUT it is not the lightest of the possible choices.

I wonder if anyone has actually worn out a Zenoah (or Fuji, etc.) in model airplane powerplant service? I'm not talking about crashes and unusual dirt inhalation, just plain old flying.

I can't even imagine having to replace a ring in one of them, unless something really unusual happens. Even a spark plug is a stretch if the carb's mixture is correct.

The problem I had with the fuji was that I needed the shorter prop hub, which was back ordered. Since Tower was the only importer, it took me 3 months to finally get it. Plus $37 for a prop bolt is a bit excessive.

get the ZDZ either in the 60cc or 80cc.......they are very lightweight and strong as an ox.........not to mention very affordable. Can be seen (and I think exclusively distributed by)

I have had experience with several large Gas Engines. Brison, Zenoah and Quadra. I'd get the Brison. IMHO Copper
