Opinion -- Bandsaw or Jigsaw

They are too fiddly to cut inside shapes with and can't easily handle anything much heavier than light ply.

If you are ONLY ever going to cut a bunch of little, lightweight pieces, than maybe the scroll saw is OK. You will soon find that it is just too limited and wish you had a good band saw.

I cut all kinds of inside shapes with my band saw. I just cut through and later CA in a scrap in the slot.

Great thing about band saws is that they are not limited to small, light pieces of wood. I cut pieces up to 2X4s and aluminum up to 1/4" thick with the same blades.

That works too. Since I've got both, I don't have to bother doing this.

Not arguing against band saws. I use mine, 14" Delta, fairly regularly and I've got a variety of blades.

I have both, but the bandsaw (Delta 3 wheel 54" blade) is used 100/1 over the jig saw (top of the line Dremel ). You can beat the cut you can get with a 1/4 inch 14 tpi blade. I have mine operated with a foot pedal as is the small drill press next to it. Just step up with the part you want to cut/drill and both hands are free to hold/position it and step on the switch.

I gave my scroll saw away to a needy modeler. Band saw wins hands down.

Two bands, a thin one for tight corners and a deeper one for less tight curves and straight cuts.
