That's good, because on some planes that's the only part that sticks out the edge of the cowl. Like the GeeBee.

I think the inner part of the prop disk works more than is commonly believed.
I believe air in the inner part of the disk is flung outward by centrifugal force, and the more important outer part has slightly compressed (but turbulent) air to work with.

An OS .46 that throws a prop will hit 30-40K until the glo plug blows. Boy, that's an ugly thought.
