In a SIG Kadet Senior, should I build it with or without right thrust?

I generally favor a 0-0-0 setup, using the control trims to fly it straight and level. However, a big draggy plane like the Kadet might benefit from a little right thrust. No more than a cuople of degrees or so.

The Kadet instructions give the option to add or not. If you are new to flying, I would add it. It will ensure that you have not put any left thrust in by mistake and it will make the difference between high and low throttle less noticable in thrust direction. A couple of degrees is about right. Gord Schindler MAAC6694

Yes, the instructions show either or. I'm new so most likely will add it. Kit comes with a insert to add to firewall for it. I guess I can add this also. AMA 835049 D.

Offhand, I don't know why you *wouldn't* want right thrust in a Kadet. For more aerobatic airplanes, I agree with the other poster about going 0-0-0, but that's not the Kadet. The Kadet is happiest when it's just puttering around at low speed, flying almost hands-off. A little right thrust simplifies the trim for that kind of flying, so I'd put it in.

In general, I put in right thrust on any plane that I don't expect to spend much time inverted. The smaller the plane, the more right thrust (not quite sure why that seems to work, but it seems to work). Of course, the Kadet is anything but small - but I'd go with whatever the instructions show.

So, is this the kit or the ARF?

A few degrees makes it a nicer experience when taking off, or when suddenly applying power during an aborted landing attempt, but it isn't mandatory.

Conversely, there is absolutely no advantage in not incorporating right thrust.

It's a kit. Images of the building so far are in alt.binaries.radio-control under RE: building. D.

Very well then, I'll build it with the thrust as the instructions & group recommend. Good timing, was about to finish up the second half of the fuselage. D.

Ahhh good - I always fear that building is becoming a lost art. The Kadet is definitely a builder's kit, too - it takes a lot of building. Nothing particularly difficult or frustrating (unlike a few other kits I could name), and the finished structure looks great. I always feel moderately guilty about covering something like that . . .

Hello "Mark Miller" I've posted the building (well so far at least) of the kadet Senior in alt.binaries radio-control. If you don't get the group let me know where and I'll post or send them. I will be adding more images later today as I now have almost finished the fuselage and will be starting the rudder and horizontal today. I'm starting to feel I will be building an additional plane before I get to the Top Flite 60 Corsair. D.
