RE: OS Max III and Quaker

I checked out the .15 OS Max III I picked up at a swap meet for my Quaker. After a bit of coaxing I got it to run. It responds to high end adjustment well and transtions ok from idle to full throttle. One problem I had and this was my fault, is that I should of backed out the idle screw so that I could fully close the throttle to shut her down. I covered the throat with my finger and it still would not shut down just kept idling. Is there a problem here or is it because the air bleed needle is backed out far???? Also I have a few questions:

1 I was using 10% nitro and my club is selling 15% ( said it was good for 2 and 4 strokes).....what nitro content would be good for this engine??? Higher then 15??? Would a higher nitro content.help in ease of starting and performance??? 2 High speed adjustment should be to find max revs back off till it runs rough than slightly lean it??? If I am correct these engines should run rich due to them leaning out while inflight?? 3 Glow Plugs: The LHS recomended OS A3 plug for lower nitro content. I would assume hotter weather and/or higher nitro one would need there cooler plugs???? What would you recomend??? Thanks Mike R

Sounds as if the o-ring at the carb's base is damaged or missing. I have also seen OS engines that have the carbs held in by two screws with a missing screw. This will cause a very large air leak....

  1. Smaller engines such as the .15 will run on 10%, but generally will do better on the 15% fuel.

  1. Peak the high speed needle, then richen slightly to set the high end.. RPM should not fall of when nose of model is raised..

  2. There is a plethora of glow plugs available. In actuality, a mild sport engine such as this will not be too critical of plugs, The OS A-3 should work fine har. My personal preference for all sport 2-strokes is the OS #8.. A bit costly, but they seem to last forever, as long as they're not run too lean. This will kill ANY plug (and engine) in short order.

Go right to the horse's mouth, so to speak.... (and me, at the other end of the horse, recommends the A3)
