what engine for a CG Ultimate 54"

Hi I know it is not the true 3D plane but what engine for a CG Ultimate 54" bipe so it will hover with ease ?

what would be better two or four stroke , I am leaning towards a two stroke.

which servos ?

You will need a Thunder Tiger 1.20 Pro two-stroke glow engine, or stronger. I like the TT 1.20 because it is lighter than many of the other engines available in its class.

Don't forget to beef up the cabane structure and the tail group.

When equipped with such a large engine, do not fly in level flight at full throttle. Or carry much throttle at all, if any, during down lines.

While this is a fairly strong model as is, any model can be destroyed with the application of too much power. Good luck.

Standard servos are fine.

I have built several for friends a while back. Four strokes seemed to be better for hovering and such. YS .91, Saito 100 or similar engines work well. Regular .91s don't seem to have quite enough power but fly the plane well.

Saito 180 - Hands down. It's lighter that the 120 with the same dimensions/bolt pattern. Ed's caveats apply :)

I would also go for the saito 180. it rocks. With some effort you can get it into a hover but not for long. enlarge all the stearing surfaces if you want to have that kind of fun. I saw one like that adn 3D improved quite a bit. But still no real 3D plane. But what it will do great is quite az lot of the showy stuff. Airobatics,

By the way, the sound of a 2s does not match the plane.

Mine hovers and will climb out on a Saito 1.00 and 15x8 prop. Had a Saito

1.8 on it- way too heavy- not a very good flyer....

Ken I believe you're absolutely correct. The 180 is *11* oz heavier than the 100. That's a major weight delta. I'm a proponent of "There's no such thing as too much power - as long as the weight delta is reasonable." Since the 180 is lighter than the 120 and 150 I'd always choose the 180. But you'd be adding too much weight by choosing a 180 over a 100.
