Chronic beryllium disease Workers who inhale beryllium-containing dust or fumes, metal oxides, alloys, ceramics, or salts may become sensitized to beryllium and develop chronic beryllium disease (CBD). CBD is a serious lung disease that can be disabling and even fatal.
