On Topic gang tool cnc machining!

Long and winding road with many a "turn" she ain't Swiss she's my gang tool .

Ok .562 hex steel, using all Iscar inserts. RPM 3000, can go 6000 but with hex it ain't worth it.

1/4" 28 3A thd. Shoulder .315 +.000 -.001 3A thread has to be run so the no-go gage is snug for zinc plating.

Turn IC 907 (flip corner at 2000 pcs) WMNG 3-2-TF IC907. .032 radius (yes I'm facing to X - .050) Same on me . Face front of shoulder & back of head to .530 .015 back. And clean up the .032 radius. WMNG 3-0-SF IC530N ( flip corner at 6000 parts). Thread iscar topping 16ER 28 UN IC508 (Flip corner at 7000 parts).

Cutoff DGR 2200JS-15D IC3028 (take out at 1000 & hone radius) Comes with 0 radius which is about .003 Run for another 1000 & change.

Kids, don't try this at home with toilet water (the Icsar rep will love you).

Is this on topic?

Nice. Only bad thing is that the control is so slow :/. We do a considerable amount of gang tooling work.

Yea, it's an OTD, but the machine was only 35K new.

Shoot a vid of a Brownie so everyone complaining about the speed of the GT can see what a fast turret index looks like.

BTW, thanks, for posting a video. I'd like to see more folks take the time to do the same.

Any with a 16C spindle?

Ok, I thought about them but I had to have Hyd collet closer, 1181 IMP rapid & 16C collet (which I can run 5C with my adapter). That's what blew the Hardinge gang tool (no HYD closer, slow rapids). I was looking at both when I bought my gang tool.

Dan,

Here ya go then...

Prior to implementation the tooling required 4 ea 1/4-20 fasteners to be loosened /tightened, taking appx 1.5 minutes for part change...as the part machining cycle is appx 1-1/2 minutes, this change resulted in a very significant reduction in process time for us.

Cheers,

Cool.

BTW, I saw an ad today in Production Machining magazine for the Chiron Mill

800 CNC machining center with a bar feed.

Given Chiron's screwed up web site I can't find a picture of it on line but they'll be showing it at IMTS.

I missed getting video of that setup...and it might be quite awhile till next run too, as I went ahead and ran out all of the customer's material in advance this last time around.

Then it's high time for them to make an engineering change to the part.
