colur coding on U.S. domestic appliances

I am trying to find out what the colour coding on a mains lead from a BIC record deck made in America. There are 2 wires ,black and blue.Here in England both these colours can stand for nuetral,there is also a green wire (obviousley earth) which comes out of the back seperate to the mains lead,it has a small hook on the end,i am unsure where to attach this to.i wiill be so grateful if someone can advise on this,i have searched the net but can't find the answer,the person i bought it from(ebAY)hasn't replied to my emails yet so i am stuck.I just don't want to blow the rwecord deck up or myself.hope someone can help,thanks for your time.John.

try to open up the unit and find out who made this thing originally. black and blue wire does not sound like made in usa, probally an import to usa/canada. and while your at it find out if the green wire is used as ground. if this comes from us voltage selector may be set for 110v, so change that too. rw

If you are referring to a line cord, it is likely green, brown, and blue, the euro, ISO, CSA standard.

You seem to have an odd one if you have a mix n match cord. Then again, you may not be referring to a line cord... hehehe...

thanks for the help folks,now up and running,black was live,blue nuetral,green ground earth,the deck was ok for a few days but it has now started to vibrate making it impossible to play records,don't suppose anyone knows whats wrong?thanks. by the way the deck was made in u.s. and was imported to uk(so i'm told).

These things usually have a belt. Check it to be sure it isn't missing a chunk
