What is the proper way of doing a megger test o n conductors?

What is the proper way of doing a megger test o n conductors?

They are asking for a test- conductor to conductor and conductor to ground.

500V DC. Is 500V DC to remain or does it leak off after one minute ?

I have not used the 500 volt scale in years. Most every thing I do is at a

1000 volt minimum. Megger bleeds off almost immediately. Not like hi-pot which must be grounded to be safe. All of the medium voltage stuff I have done was using the 5000 volt scale.

With out knowing what your doing it is pretty hard to point you in a direction that will help.

I usually leave it on for about 30 seconds after the meter's needle has stopped climbing. then record the values.

conductors?

conductor to ground.

minute ?

The 500vdc dissapears instantly as soon as you disconnect the live source...the megger generates the high voltage vdc, then measures resistance to ground at that voltage...its the

*resistance reading thats relevant...an infinitely high or very high resistance reading is ideal... depends on what are measuring.. conductors will read very high resistance to ground or infinite in the 500vdc range in most cases... motors with windings thinly insulated with varnish will read much lower resistance to ground numbers... those numbers given in the specifications for the motor or wiring insulation...

zero resistance is a dead short obviously.
