The project began with the concept of creating a full wrap design on a tall, skinny tumbler, centering around a desert night scene. This idea incorporated a howling coyote and a launching retro rocket into the comprehensive wrap.

The tumbler is constructed from a tall cylindrical matte black metal bottle. The maker decided to remove the surface coating, which revealed a silver-toned metal underneath. The design incorporates many elements, including saguaro, canyon rocks, and agave, alongside celestial features such as the Milky Way and stars. The rocket section features faint vertical text along its fuselage.

It took the maker just over two hours to complete the entire engraving process, setting the speed at 100mm/s. The piece successfully passed an initial scrub and wash, showing no flakes of finish. The maker is currently still testing various power and speed settings. A lingering question remains regarding how to align images so that the seam becomes invisible, and the long-term durability of the finish is still unknown!

The decision to remove the matte black coating to expose the silver-toned metal looks very clever. It provides a strong contrast for the detailed desert landscape elements against the darker backdrop. This technique instantly elevates the appearance of the engraved details.

Since the maker is experimenting with settings, one improvement could involve focusing on the alignment of the images. Achieving an invisible seam would make the overall full wrap design look much more cohesive and professional.
