Emtek Key in Knobsets

Hello there...

I am a newbie door hardware specifier (self builder) and was wondering if anyone here could you tell me if I should be bothering with Emtek Key in Knobsets? I have heard one opinion (from a salesperson) that Emtek fell down on their KIK mechanisms and they fail more quickly than other makes. He suggested buying Baldwin which is of course more expensive But really are they any better? Or put another way Is he right about Emtek Key in Knobsets?

Thanks for the thought so far!

Regards

I am a locksmith and I have Emtek on my house. No KIK though. Passage levers throughout and handlesets on all exteriors. My opinion. Nothing special to justify the price. Except -- A thing called a wife who wanted them for appearance. Even more so than Baldwin. So that is what we ended up with. Double the cost and about the same quality as standard Schlage.

You're tripping a memory. I worked with Emtek one time, maybe two years ago. The quality was just terrible. I won't bore you with technical details, but the cylinders offered essentially zero pick resistance, or resistatnce to jiggling the wrong key and get it to work.

If it's the brand I'm thinking, you couldn't pay me enough to put em on my own home. Incidentally, I have Kwikset locks on my own home.

Only because that's all you can afford and given that you have posted your home address on the web I wouldn't brag too much about that if I were you.

I wouldn't want a lock with that terribly crappy construction of cylinders.
