would there ever be a time when the control key and the operating key have the same depth. Obviously they all 7 can't be the same, but I would think a few could and nobody would know the difference.

different shear line...isnt there?

Yep. Same depth, different depth, doesn't matter as long as at least one depth differs so the lock knows which one it's responding to.
That's one of the nice things about the Best system -- the control key selection really is almost completely independent of the rest of the keying system.
(Which means that theoretically you could actively manage who's allowed to rekey which portions of the system, by using different control keys independently from normal system management. Hmmm. That's sorta interesting.)
yeah, but suppose both lined up with one key cut in one pin stack.
you could master the control line the way you do the operating line. sure, no question about it.
It would not cause any mischief as long as only one shear line was aligned. If you were to key both to the same bitting, then you would have a problem.
yes...who is to say that ALL have the same control key.. same MASTER key-yes,, but that would not allow the plug to be pulled..interesting possibilities there.
I am weak on this, but if I am seeing right, keeping it simple, this is 2 separate lock cylinders in ONE..the door/master key being 1 lock, and then the removal part being separate.. --Shiva--
wont happen.. lets describe it.. the lock plug is half inch diameter.. and the key to that shear line is 1 set of depths.. surrounding it is ANOTHER piece of (loose description) pipe of a LARGER diameter.. to grab and turn that larger diameter takes a different set of depths of cuts.. the inner and outer cannot have the same depth of cut.. --Shiva--
but why? there is no need to.. --Shiva--
there's no need to running a war in Iraq. what does that matter.
but you could probably get away with a few stacks simultaneously opening both shear lines.
cant be done. EITHER shear line will be 'correct, but you cannot turn BOTH at the same time.
--Shiva--
well, yeah, if all 7 stacks allow both lines to turn, you'll have a big mess on your hands.
in theory you might never get the core out if that happened.
the key wouldnt turn..
