I'm trying to choose a good high-security lock. Double-sided deadbolts worry me because I don't want to get locked in my house in a fire. So I'm looking for a good single-sided deadbolt.
Mark Tobias claims that Medeco M3 single-sided deadbolts can be opened with what's described as a slightly modified screwdriver and a metal shim, and that several other manufacturers' single-sided deadbolts can be opened in the same way. My guess is that a little doohickey attached to the end of the screwdriver blade is used to turn the cam on the end of the lazy tailpiece. Are there any single-sided deadbolts that are not vulnerable to this method of attack?
