Here's an interesting article critical of Diebold and others:
seems by other posts I am getting on this, that if ANY web site puts up something mentioning their software in a derogatory manner, they are threatened with a HUGE lawsuit.

The main problem with electronic voting is that there can never be a recount.
funny thing... IF you go to an ATM, it prints off a paper receipt... BUT they are fighting having a 'paper trail' with these, tooth and nail. The software is good and safe and accurate-they said so...

Electronic voting in a great example of complicating a process and creating new and troubling problems to replace a system which is not flawed in the first place, unless the voters using said system are too stupid to vote and properly examine a paper ballot.
The "hanging chad" problem seems to qualify as a flaw. There are other paper methods which may be more robust.
One of the pressures is getting vote totals quickly after the polls have closed. There is a huge public demand for this.
