There was only one mention in this thread of the "scarysharp" method of sharpening chisels. It's such a neat idea that I thought I'd plug it again. It's a technique, not a product.
It gives, as the name suggests, an edge that is so sharp you'll be scared.
In essence, a piece of glass is used as a backing for sandpaper. Like most sharpening processes you start out coarse and work your way to VERY, VERY fine grit (over 2000 grit if I recall correctly).
I've sharpened planes and chisels using this method. I did not find the super fine sandpaper, so I stopped at 1800. The plane was able to cleanly shave across the endgrain of a 1x2 white pine.
