Removing new model chrysler retainer

Does any company make a tool to pull the ignition lock retainer out in case of wafer damage? Looking at the replacement lock it appears that it would be possible if you had the right tool. I know a "rotary pick" works but I would rather purchase a tool made especially for the procedure if they make one.

I use fish hooks. Heat the shank only to straighten it out, then grind the point off to shorten the distance between the tip and the barb. Poke it into the retainer and pull. Throw a rag over it while pulling it out so the retainer doesn't fly under a cabinet.

I don't think you will have much luck with that idea.

But what you might want to try is making yourself a little L shaped tool to coax the stuck wafer. If you look inside with a good light or a scope, you can usually spot the stuck wafer. It is often in position 1 or 2.

Since the new style Chrysler wafers are a closed design unlike GM this works well. Sometimes you can cut a sacrificial key that you can thin down to allow the tool and the key to sit in the keyway at the same time.

Practice this on the bench and you will count the stuck Chrysler ignition jobs as quickies.

I have had real good results with an ignition file (sold to work on distributor points, available at Sears) that I modified (ground down a bit) to fit in the wafer slots to knock out the burrs. This and replacing the week springs with a little stiffer ones eliminates call backs.
