Gaffer's Tape is available from theatrical supply houses... Look in your local phone book under :"Theatrical Equipment and Supplies" Every larger city should have at least one place that sells things like this...
I know of several in the Boston area personally...

you can get gaffers tape at any theatreatical supply store. one is Barbizon, another is Rosebrand, and many others
Get some of that no-slip stuff that looks like rubberized netting and glue a few pieces on. It'll keep things from sliding around if you're working on a slick or tilted surface.
It's also quite useful for gripping just about anything slick.
Masking tape is also somewhat easier to mark, IME. I tend to stick with blue for most projects, and for a quick template, I've had good luck with the sticky sheets from lint rollers.
