magnetic stirrer

dear group

i 'm designing a magnetic stirrer, to stirr 2 liters of water. i need help to determine the torque and power required by the motor. also help to determine the size and 'power' of magnets. if someone remember the equations, please help me. regards.

depends on how fast you want to stir, the thickness of the pot base, and the diameter of the base of the pot.

If you view the stirring magnet as a rotor and the driving base as a stator, that makes the stirrer and the base a motor, rather than a magnet driving a magnet.

In the case of magnet driving a magnet, start with small drive magnets mounted on a shaft around the driven magnet, and look into a stepper motor fed by a simple pulse generator and have the driven magnet move according to your pulse frequency. (you can feed a pulse, such as a submultiple of the wall frequency, to make the motor "step" accortding to how many pulses you put in rather than have it run at wall frequency)

Use a 1/8th HP motor with a variable speed control. Almost any dipole magnet pair of 3 cm length or more will do.

Oh, you didn't want to build one? You wanted to answer a question paper? Sorry, can't help.
