Is it true that an Horse Power (HP) isn't equal to an "italian" Cavallo Vapore (CV)?
It's close. A CV is about 735.5 watts and a standard horsepower is about 745.7 watts (or exactly 746 W for an electrical hp). Horsepower is based on the equivalent 550 ft-lb/s.

Is it true that an Italian CV = 746 watts?
If yes, then no it is not true that a CV is unequal to an HP
However, if no, then yes its true that a CV is unequal to an HP

Dear Brian Whatcott:
Are you positively not unsure about that?

UNITS !
Horse power actually has several different definitions. Most common is 33,000 foot pounds / minuet = 0.745699871 kW
CH ( cheval ??? ) Is I think the same as PS, the metric horsepower this is 7.500 kilogram force meters / second = 0.735498750 kW
The difference of 1.4% can usually be ignored.
Electrical horsepower is defined as 0.746 kW
