Science and Technology Communications Specialist
APCO Worldwide
The Associate will be involved in the translation of complex scientific and technical information into layperson's language in such fields as energy, environment and the space program. He or she will also plan media and other strategic communications events focused on the dissemination of accurate and easily understood scientific and technical information to the press, government and the public. Occasional travel will be required.
Essential Requirements:
- Exceptional English language writing, editing and oral communications skills;
- Significant experience working with mass media as either a journalist, editor or freelance contributor translating complex science and technology issues into language understandable by the general public;
- A good basic understanding of science and technology, specifically in areas relating to energy, air pollution and climate change;
- A strong focus on technical and scientific accuracy, and newsworthiness, of your writing;
- Ongoing commitment to learning in both the technical and communications fields;
- Strong interpersonal, self-starting and multi-tasking skills;
- Able to provide immediate support to media and technical experts as required;
- Ability to manage a comprehensive range of files;
- Excellent client relations skills;
- Well-developed skills in the use of Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and the Web.
The following skills/experience would be assets:
- Bachelor or above in mechanical engineering or hard science (specifically geology, climatology, meteorology, physics, chemistry or related areas).
- Three or more years professional experience in a technical or scientific discipline;
- Degree or diploma in journalism with a focus on mass media;
- A good understanding of Parliament and federal government policy decision making;
- Experience in business development and marketing.
- Bilingualism ? English/French.
